Botox® | Dysport®

Most people are familiar with the concept of injecting botulinum toxin (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin) into facial muscles to achieve temporary relaxation of those muscles in order to reduce the appearance of frown lines, wrinkles and age signs on the face.

We use the name "Botox" which is a trademarked brand of Allergan pharmaceutical to describe any injectable Botulinum type A, much in the same way we use "kleenex" to describe a facial tissue. In fact, there are three versions of Botulinum toxin type A that are approved by the FDA, and several more are seeking approval.

We are usually asked often what is the cost of Botox injections. Just as the decision to get Dysport, Xeomin or Botox injections is a personal one that requires consultation, the cost is also determined based on how many units needed to achieve your goals and best results. However to reveal our competitive prices so you won't think that we are hiding some astronomical figures to shock you with after you consultation like others would do, we charge $12/unit for Botox. Similar competitive pricing structure will be followed for Dysport if chosen.

Our skilled physicians specialized in Physical Medicine & Pain Management will evaluate and recommend the best options for you based on your specific needs and desires, and cannot be generalized across different individuals. Each person is different, hence a free personal consultation is always offered to determine your expectations and your goals, as it pertains to facial appearance.

The three main toxins you’ll most likely encounter when looking to get rid of facial wrinkles are Botox® by Allergan, Dysport® by Galderma and Xeomin® by Merz. All three of them work the same way by temporarily blocking the nerves of facial muscles that create wrinkles. They all have the same active ingredient – botulinum toxin – but each brand has a slightly different formulation. Generally, most practitioners use all three to treat fine lines and wrinkles on the brow, forehead crow’s feet, bunny lines, frown lines and nasal squint.

Botox® was the first neuromodulator to be introduced to the market, therefore it has the best name-recognition. This isn’t necessarily an important quality when looking to get rid of wrinkles, but obviously it's been studied the most since it has been around the longest.

Dysport® appear in about half the time as Botox® and Xeomin®. Dysport moves quicker and spreads out over a larger area faster given it's smaller molecule size. In certain parts of the face, such as the forehead or crow’s feet where most people want a broad, even distribution, hence it can be a better option.

Xeomin® is basically the same naturally occurring protein produced by the bacteria clostridium botulinum as Botox however it contains just one ingredient. There are no additives or preservatives which is usually the component of toxins that people react adversely to. So, certain candidates haven't tolerated Botox® or Dysport® well in the past, Xeomin® may be their go-to neuromodulator.
